The Geology Field School field-trip sticker.
- Wimbledon White — In honor of the 1968 Ford Bronco I’ve spent too much time and money restoring. It is a shade of white that Ford used on the removable hard top.
- Texas Aggie Maroon — In honor of Texas A&M University, where I spent too much time and money learning about minerals and nautical archaeology.
- Republic of Texas Blue — Because at one time it was the best country in the world, and we must not forget the Alamo, Shiner Bock beer, or good barbecue.
The sticker is Delicate Arch in Moab, Utah.
When I was starting this company I thought about what would instantly convey the wonders, complications, beauty, and deep time of geology. Delicate Arch is probably the most famous geologic symbol in America — a freestanding wonder of Jurassic eolian sandstone shaped by the unfathomable forces of the earth that has weathered into an awe-inspiring reminder that all things in this life are ephemeral, but sometimes we get to enjoy it and exist in the same space and time as these things that are as equally grand, mysterious, and wonderful as us individual humans.
And then I thought the only thing that would make it better was if I took the silhouette of the arch and stuck a Texas flag on it.
This version of the sticker is only on field courses. It is earned. It cannot be bought anywhere and it is never given away. The only people in the world who have one are those who have completed a Geology Field School. It is a humble, if slightly droll, sincere token of thanks.
