Rene Jonk
Rene Jonk has more than 25 years of experience in geoscience characterization for petroleum exploration, development and research, having held technical advisor and leadership roles with ExxonMobil and Apache. He has worked extensively across offshore basins of the African and South American margins, as well as the North Sea and the Mediterranean, and on onshore unconventional exploration and production. He is an honorary professor at the University of Aberdeen, where he teaches seal evaluation for petroleum geology and CCS and is a consultant with the Sand Injectite Research Group.

Christopher Oswalt
Christopher Oswalt has over two decades of experience in outdoor education and wilderness risk management. For six years he served as Global Field Safety Director for Nautilus/RPS, training field staff, auditing courses, and overseeing safety operations for more than 100 field courses worldwide. In 2019 he left Nautilus to launch Geology Field School, which he now directs.

Andrew Hurst
Professor Andrew Hurst is Chair of Energy Geoscience at the University of Aberdeen and a Chartered Geologist. The 2026 Scotland field guide names him as providing additional technical instruction. Since 2000 he has led the Sand Injection Research Group (SIRG) at Aberdeen, which the university describes as focused on sandstone intrusion reservoir facies.
